NEW REPORT CONCLUDES PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS DO NOT HARM LOCAL DISTRICT BUDGETS MASSACHUSETTS TAXPAYERS FOUNDATION REPORT NEGATES KEY ARGUMENT AGAINST LIFTING THE CAP ON PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS

Statement by Marc Kenen, Executive Director, Massachusetts Charter Public School

Association, on the MTF report.

BOSTON, SEPTEMBER 28, 2016 – “Today’s Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation report concludes that public charter schools do not have a negative impact on local school budgets.
It’s time for district leaders to stop blaming parents for choosing the public schools they believe will best serve the educational needs of their children.

A Yes vote on Question 2 would allow the state to approve additional charters in the state’s lowest performing districts in a measured and strategic way, allowing for charters to grow where they are most needed and ensuring fair access to high quality public schools.”
