Roxbury Prep Welcomes Home Alumna Taina Mair for WNBA Homecoming Celebration

On September 4, 2026, Roxbury Prep welcomed home alumna Taina Mair for an emotional homecoming celebration, marking her journey from Dorchester to the WNBA. Mair, who attended Roxbury Prep Mission Hill and now plays for the Seattle Storm, returned to the school’s gym to a room full of starstruck students, proud former teachers, and honored guests.

Mair was drafted 14th overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2026 WNBA Draft after a standout senior season at Duke, where she led the Blue Devils to the ACC championship and an Elite Eight appearance. The homecoming, held in partnership with State Representative Chris Worrell and Boston City Councilor Brian Worrell, included an official state citation for Mair and a proclamation declaring September 4th “Taina Mair Day” in the City of Boston.

The celebration brought out Mair’s family, including her brother Talik, also a Roxbury Prep graduate, who delivered an emotional speech. Emma Simmons, principal of Roxbury Prep’s Dorchester campus and Mair’s former middle school coach, reflected on watching Mair grow from a standout student-athlete into a role model for the next generation. Mair stayed for nearly an hour after the event, signing autographs and speaking with students.

We are proud to celebrate Taina Mair and the role Roxbury Prep played in her journey. Her story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talented students are given a strong foundation – and of the lasting bond between Massachusetts charter public schools and the students they serve, long after graduation.
