Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Librarian Becky Sniffen Helps Students Find Their Story

In a thoughtful and detailed reflection on her role as school librarian at Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School, Becky Sniffen shares how she is able to connect with students across every grade level and classroom. She describes how in a diverse, dual language immersion setting, the library becomes a “common room” where everyone converges, and everyone belongs. 

She works flexibly to ensure the library collection reflects her students — their interests, their challenges, their needs, and their strengths. And she strategizes new ways to promote inclusion when children and families may not all share the same first language but still must learn early media literacy.
