Massachusetts Charter Public School Association Celebrates Twelve Charter Public Schools in U.S. News & World Report’s List of Top 100 Massachusetts Public High Schools

BOSTON, MA (August 18, 2026) – Charter public schools from across the Commonwealth received recognition in the 2026-2027 Best High Schools issue from the U.S. News & World Report. The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association (MCPSA) celebrates recognition of 12 member schools among the top 100 high schools in Massachusetts, including two charter public schools in the top 10.
Once again, Massachusetts has more public high schools ranked in the top quarter nationally than any other state in the country.
The 2026-2027 national public high school rankings were based on data points such as student achievement on state tests, graduation rates, and college readiness measures, including student participation and performance in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams – with a focus on evaluating how well schools serve all students, including underserved populations.
“We are so proud that 12 of our member schools were recognized by the U.S. News & World Report among the top 100 Public Schools in Massachusetts for 2026-2027,” said Tim Nicolette, Executive Director of MCPSA. “These rankings speak to the high quality academic instruction and positive student outcomes that our charter public schools foster statewide.”
The 12 MCPSA member schools that were among the Commonwealth’s top 100 public high schools include:

- Pioneer Charter School of Science (PCSS), #27
- Excel Academy Charter School, #31
- Salem Academy Charter School, #46
- Community Charter School of Cambridge, #49
- Hampden Charter School of Science, #60
- KIPP Academy Lynn Charter School, #63
There are 67 charter public schools in Massachusetts that serve over 46,000 students, 52% of which are in gateway cities, 19% in the city of Boston, and 28% in suburban and rural areas. Charter public schools also serve a diverse student population, with 77% students of color, 56% low-income students and families, 18% students with disabilities, and 14% English language learners.
