Dear Charter Public School Friends,

This week, over 180 charter public school supporters from across our Commonwealth engaged in a week of virtual advocacy at the State House. We launched this first-ever virtual effort with a kick-off event on March 2nd, which featured a number of speakers: Nikki Barnes, the Executive Director of KIPP Massachusetts (see here for her remarks) Representative Chynah Tyler (D-Roxbury), a proud Roxbury Prep and Prospect Hill Academy graduate, Tiera Daniels, a parent of two Springfield Prep Charter Public School scholars, and myself.

Following the virtual rally, these advocates, which included families, school leaders, and board members, engaged in meetings with legislators to share their stories about the significant value that charter public schools provide communities across the Commonwealth, and to advocate for full funding of the Student Opportunity Act (SOA) in the FY22 budget. Many supporters also emailed their elected representatives and posted on social media about why they love their charter public school.

We are so grateful to all of the members of the charter public school community who showed up and made our Advocacy Week a huge success. Charter public schools in Massachusetts continue to demonstrate the important role they play in making the Commonwealth’s public education system one of the best in the country. If you’d like to get involved in future advocacy efforts, we would love to hear from you! Please email our Advocacy Manager, Jessica Bahena, at [email protected] for more information.

Gratefully,

Executive Director, Massachusetts Charter Public School Association
