THREE NEW CHARTER PUBLIC SCHOOLS RECOMMENDED BY EDUCATION COMMISSIONER

FULL BOARD WILL VOTE FEB. 27

Statement by MCPSA Executive Director Marc Kenen

BOSTON, FEBRUARY 17, 2017 – “We are pleased Commissioner Chester is recommending approval of three new charter public schools, and the expansion of several others. We hope the full Board will adopt his recommendations.

The new schools will bring additional high quality public educational choices to families in Western, Southeastern and Central Massachusetts, while the expansions will allow highly successful public charters to serve more children in communities across the Commonwealth.

Demand for high quality public school options is still extremely strong in districts from Cape Cod to the Berkshires, and we expect to see charter public schools to continue to grow steadily and deliberately in communities where there is still room under existing enrollment caps.”
